General Notes: Husband - Allen F ANGLEMYER
n September 1944, Al enlisted in the U.S. Merchant Marines, working in the engine room on oil tankers. Al sailed throughout the Caribbean and Atlantic oceans, carrying aviation fuel to Europe to support Allied Forces. After serving for two years, Al was discharged.
Al returned to Ohio, working construction jobs. He later worked in California. In 1947, Al returned to sea duty with the U.S. Army Transport Corps. Al worked on a troop ship, taking and bringing troops to Korea and Japan.
After Al graduated in 1953 with a degree in animal husbandry, he and Verna moved to Corvallis, where Al completed his master's degree in 1956 and doctorate in 1957. Al began teaching in the Animal Science Department of Oregon State University. In 1956, he moved to the Department of Food Technology, where he taught classes and conducted research. Al taught graduate, upper and lower division courses, and worked with graduate students.
During their retirement, Al and Verna made a cross-country trip, visiting family on the East Coast and in the South. They also enjoyed day trips to the coast, and entertaining family at their home.
