Mrs. Alsip
Nellie Irene (Turner) Alsip passed away Thursday, May 9, 2019, at her daughter and son-in-law's home with her family.
She was born in Morris Fork, Kentucky, Aug. 2, 1928, to S. Taulbee and Mary (Riley) Turner. She moved from Kentucky to Ohio when she was four years old. She married Meredith Blair Alsip June 21, 1947, in Tiffin. They are the parents of Mary (Bill) Buskirk of Tiffin, Russell Alsip (deceased), Julie (Rod) Graf of Maumee, Jennifer (John) Bowen of Tiffin and Andrew (Connie) Alsip of Bettsville.
Nellie graduated from Tiffin Columbian High School in 1946. She helped her parents run Turner's Restaurant and worked for a time at Tiffin Columbian in food service. At age 39, she began her college career at Bowling Green State University and completed her undergraduate degree in elementary education and library science. She earned a master's degree in curriculum and instruction from Ashland University in 1986. Nellie taught at St. Joseph Elementary School for seven years and then became head librarian at Mohawk High School for 13 years, retiring in 1990. She also helped her husband of 63 years at his antique store, Blair's Attic in Tiffin. They traveled through the U.S. and Canada in their vintage Airstream and often to their favorite camping destination, Edisto Beach, South Carolina. She was a reader, a poet, and news and political junkie. She was a wonderful cook and passed her love of cooking on to her children and grandchildren.
She was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ and a charter member of Mother's Circle at Trinity. She was also a member and officer of The League of Women Voters.

Miriam worked for the Sterling Grinding Wheel Company and was a member of the Trinity Church of Christ in Tiffin, the Mother's Circle and the Trinity Twosomes. She was a 1939 graduate of Tiffin Columbian High School and also attended Tiffin University. Miriam loved collecting antiques and setting up at the Tiffin Flea Market, playing cards with her friends, camping, gardening especially her roses, and being a housewife.
