Ruth graduated from Carey High School in 1949 and later graduated from Bowling Green State University with a degree in Education. She taught third grade at Longfellow Elementary School in Fostoria and in the Athens Ohio School System. She moved to Michigan in 1959 and taught as a substitute teacher in the Dearborn Heights School System for several years. She became very active in church work and stopped teaching. Ruth loved to travel. She enjoyed the privilege of visiting all fifty states, ten Canadian Provinces and twenty-four other countries. She was a member of St. Andrew's United Methodist Church, Findlay, a former member of the First United Methodist Church of Dearborn, MI where she was very active and held many positions within the church, she was also a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star in McCutchensville, Ohio
