General Notes: Wife - Jo Ann BLANKE
Jo Ann Blanke Wood passed away on Tuesday 8-23-16 after several years of struggling with her illness. She was 78 years old. Jo Ann maintained her sense of humor and continued to make deep and meaningful connections with people throughout all the years of dealing with Parkinson's Disease. Nurses and caregivers that spent time with Jo Ann consistently remarked on how much they loved and appreciated spending time with her. Jo Ann retired from Grady Memorial Hospital after 30 years of hard work as a Registered Nurse. She returned to work after her husband Dr. Phillip Kent Wood passed away in 1977 and worked all the way through to retirement age while raising four children by herself in Delaware County, Ohio. She took pride in her work and made many friends in the nursing field. She was remembered as a great nurse and an extremely generous and kind woman at Grady. Jo Ann was smart and savvy and people she encountered in life always walked away with fond memories of her. Jo Ann will be laid to rest next to her husband Dr. Phillip Kent Wood as she wanted. In her last communications to her children her husband was always on her mind and she looked forward to seeing him again in Heaven. We as her children know that her years of suffering are now behind her and she will be resting comfortably with our Dad now. Jo Ann is survived by her two sons Michael Joseph Wood and Patrick Kent Wood as well as her two daughters Katherine Elizabeth Wood and Barbara Anne Wood. She was the Grandmother of five children: Nicholas Wood and Samuel Wood of St. Louis Missouri, Jacob and Michael Gartland of Dublin Ohio, and Joseph Wood of Columbus Ohio. She spoiled all of these boys as babies and each of them have fond memories of good times with their Grandma. Jo Ann is also survived by her brother in law Dr. Frederick Wood and his wife Gail Wood as well as her sibling Barbara Booth. Jo Ann was very close to her father Joseph Samuel Blanke who passed many years back. She will be able to see him again and this will bring her peace.Jo Ann touched a lot of lives with her wit and great sense of humor. Many people will think of her with a smile for years to come. Jo Ann enjoyed visiting with the nuns from Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Grove City Ohio. In lieu of flowers donations can be made there to the Church and School. Visitation will be held from 9:00am-10:00am on Saturday, August 27, at RUTHERFORD-CORBIN FUNERAL HOME, 515 HIGH ST., WORTHINGTON, OHIO 43085, with a graveside service to follow immediately after at Walnut Grove Cemetery.
