1954 graduate of Scipio-Republic High School, Laura was a machine operator at Whirlpool in Clyde, retiring in 2000. She was a member of the Bellevue Red Hat Society, a volunteer coordinator at Bellevue Hospital, and a former member of Republic Lady Lions Club. Along with her husband, she was a member of the Northwest Ohio Chapter of The Safari Club International at Lima.
Known as "Babe" by many, she was a beautiful lady who enjoyed life to the fullest. Her kitchen was called "Cookie Heaven" by her precious nephews, Adam, Ryan, and Eric Powell, because of her delicious cooking and baking. For the last 42 years, Babe and her husband played cards monthly with five other couples they have known since high school. She enjoyed traveling, especially going on cruises with her daughter and sister. However, her greatest pleasure came from the times she spent fishing with her husband. Together they spent 32 years relaxing at their place on Lake Erie. Boating at sunset was special. Their travels took them all over the world to fish, even above the Arctic Circle. Even though Babe did not go, she was very enthusiastic about Daryl's fishing expeditions to the jungles of Venezuela and the Amazon. They had planned a trip to Africa to fish, hunt and ride in a hot air balloon over the desert; however, her illness of the last four years had kept them home. Although she kept very busy, she always remained an avid Atlanta Braves fan.
