Harold graduated from Tiffin Columbian High School in 1950 and proudly served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He was a life member of Tiffin American Legion Post 169 where he served many years as Post Adjutant and was a member of the USS Columbus CA-74 Veterans Association and the U.S. Navy Cruiser Sailors Association. In 2019, he was proud to participate in a Flag City Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. After many years in the trucking industry, he retired as a foreman from Tiffin Enterprise, Inc. He was a member of First English Lutheran Church then Family of Faith Lutheran Church, and spent many years serving his church family on church councils and committees.
Harold will be remembered for his loving devotion to his faith, his family, and his wide circle of friends and neighbors who were treated like family. His friendly spirit and ready sense of humor drew people to him, leading to many lifelong friendships. His many quiet acts of generosity and thoughtfulness were in keeping with his humility. Growing up on a farm led to an enduring love of animals including a love of horses he shared with his granddaughter. His house always had pets including a sassy dachshund and even a pet squirrel named Mario. He was a devoted "car guy" teaching car maintenance to his daughters and joining his grandsons in their shared love of cars, especially Fords. He was an avid racing fan, following NASCAR (those cars with the blue oval) and a dear friend in sprint car racing.
