Paul attended St. Boniface School and was a lifelong member of All Saints Parish (St. Boniface and Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Churches). His strong Catholic faith led him to be a member of the Ministry of Praise and the former Holy Name Society, as well as being elected for several terms as a councilman and parish council member and officer for St. Peter's Parish. He was honored to be awarded the Open Arms Award by the Diocese of Toledo on March 1, 2014, for serving as an example of faith and service to his Catholic community while living with a physical disability.
Paul proudly served his country as a member of the United States Marine Corps aboard the U.S.S. Wharton in the Pacific Theater during WWII and he was a member of the New Riegel American Legion Post No. 354 for over 67 years. A few days before his 95th birthday, Paul was privileged to travel to Washington, D.C., with fellow WWII veterans aboard Flag City Honor Flight.
A lifelong farmer, Paul's hobbies revolved around his love for the farm and in later years he could often be found with his dogs Odie and Lassie. Paul also enjoyed fishing, being a member of the former Lions Club of New Riegel, traveling with his wife and family throughout the United States and watching the Cash Explosion lottery program on television. In 2004 he was overjoyed to be a contestant on Cash Explosion at age 87. He loved his family, friends and neighbors and had a special devotion to his granddaughter and godchild, Bethany.
Since Paul's second leg amputation surgery in November, he spent these final few months at Good Shepherd. His family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the staff for the excellent care, therapy and kindness he received while a resident.
