General Notes: Husband - Herbert Gibson LORTZ
A 1943 graduate of Carey High School, Herb was a true fan of the Carey Blue Devils. If there was an athletic event happening, he was most likely there wearing his Carey blue and white garb and a bag of popcorn in his hand. He traveled to many away games with his son in-law, Stan, over the years.
Following graduation, Herb joined the US Navy and served on the U.S.S. Torrance during WWII. Upon returning, he went to work on the family farm, which was awarded as a "Century Farm" in 2016. He loved being a livestock and grain farmer. When things were slow on the farm, he would put on his carpenter's belt and assist Bob Phillips with his construction business.
Herb was a 57 year member of Memorial United Methodist Church. Herb loved his motorcycles. He was still riding his motorcycle into town to socialize at the Legion or VFW at the young age of 89. Herb was a life member of the American Legion 344 and VFW 3759 both in Carey, as well as, a member of the Wyandot County Farm Bureau, N.R.A. and Wyandot Tracers.
