From Jerry Ernsberger
Greetings ex-cousin,

Thank you for replying to my query about Henry Schatzman. I called my father and asked him about what you wrote. He said that he saw pictures of the motel, but the ownership he was not aware of. I did find an online list of divorces and Henry and Thelma divorced in September 1956 (ancestry.com florida divorces). The story from my father who was living in Florida at the time says that someone came and picked Heine up and took him to Ohio. When he left he cleaned out the house of everything and took it with him. So who kicked whom out is unclear. My aunt was left without anything. This time period was not remembered... The house in Riverview, Florida where they lived was still standing twenty years ago. My great grandfather Loral is buried nearby in Ruskin, Florida.
I asked my father if he remembered Heine and he said that when he was around five he and Heine would listen to the radio on the porch. This would put your estimate of 1945 right in line. He also said that Thelma was a secretary for Pepsi before working at Heine's creamery. So the stories pretty well fit together.
On one of the census Henry is listed as "Hiny." Now from your email I know it was "Heini," thank you. This was one of the loose ends now nailed down. I do have one correction for you. Thelma died in San Diego, CA 4 Jan 1998. The other Thelma is a cousin, born the same year. The two Thelmas share the same 3x great grandfather Michael Ernsberger, so however cousins are figured.
I am so happy to have this information, there are only three members of my father's family still living that are older than I to ask questions of. Your information sparked more stories from my father. Please let me know if we can exchange more information.

Dear ex-cousin,

I finally found the photographs of Thelma in a drawer that was not where I thought the photos of Thelma should have been. The first photo is dated September 1953, Clearwater beach, Florida. Clearwater is between Tampa and St Petersburg, Florida, a very pretty place. Wow! It has been over twenty years since I have been to Clearwater, Florida. The second photo is of the back of the first photo, and the third photo is either of the same day or possibly earlier. The man is my grandfather Karl Ernsberger, Thelma's younger brother. This is what Thelma looked like when Henry Schatzman knew her. Not to bad...I have always thought that she was pretty, even when she got older.
I plan to send a copy of the photo of Henry that you sent me to my father to see what he thinks, or remembers. This was a piece of information that I feared would never be found.
After you see Thelma's photos maybe you will have some other photos of the two of them. I believe that I have seen Henry in another photo, where and when I cannot remember.
Thelma was a kind, friendly person. She was the main source of family history and she could remember dates and people for generations. I only found one mistake in a last name in a list of people she sent me. If only I knew then what I know now my questions could have been more directed. But, the chase has been both rewarding and frustrating. And we have connected years after everyone involved is now gone. Pretty neat!

Later,

Jerry
