Precious Raggedy Ann kept her date in Heaven with handsome Raggedy Randy Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2017, when Joan Louise Hossler traded her earthly life to walk, run and dance down the "Streets of Glory" with her waiting husband, LeRoy, who died in 2015.
Joan was born Jan. 14, 1937, to Dorothy and Charles Beck and was the youngest of three daughters. She loved growing up with her two sisters, Betty Brubaker (deceased) and Jean Fox (surviving) and neighborhood friends on Greenfield Street, Tiffin. Joan graduated from Tiffin Columbian High School, worked at Tiffin Glass, waitressed at Pan Yan Restaurant, kept books for LCS Construction and operated an assembly line at LiquiBox.
She married her soul mate, LeRoy E. Hossler, Dec. 26, 1954, and spent the next 60 years building a lifetime of memories. They became proud parents of four children, Chris (Barb) Hossler, Terri (James) Davis, Scott (Marti) Hossler and Todd (Mary) Hossler, all of Tiffin. Over the years, Joan and LeRoy were blessed with 11 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Upon retirement, Joan enjoyed traveling around the world from Alaska, China, Ireland, Egypt and more. She loved talking to the native people and experiencing the culture like riding a camel, seeing the pyramids or kissing the "Blarney Stone."
Joan also loved watching her family grow up. She helped direct the planting of the gardens, assisted in cooking food for soup parties and opened her home to those who needed a friend, both young and old. She greeted everyone with a smile and a warm welcome before giving them a word of advice which was usually tenacious in nature, but also kindly from her heart. Joan's tenderness extended to her animals, especially her dog, Tipper Marie, and her cat, Dolly.
In the wintertime, Joan loved relaxing in Florida at their retirement home watching TV with her husband. She crocheted beautiful afghans or nylon scrubbies, spent time chatting with neighbors, went out to eat to various restaurants and played cards with friends. In Joan's 81 years, she lived each day with the motto, "Be happy every day for it is a gift.
